Interim Reporting Manager

About the Company

This specialist private prosecution law firm is widely recognised for excellence in its field, with top-band rankings from both Chambers & Partners and the Legal 500. Founded in 2012, the firm has continued to strengthen its reputation through a commitment to high-quality client service, rigorous standards, and disciplined governance.

Following private equity investment in November 2025, the firm is building a finance function capable of reporting to a PE standard while maintaining full compliance with the SRA Accounts Rules. A newly appointed CFO is reshaping the team with a clear focus on stabilising the month-end close, ensuring balance sheet integrity, and improving controllership and management information.

About the Role

Reporting Manager (Interim) is an immediate-start interim appointment (with potential to convert to permanent for the right person). This role provides a defined mandate to own controllership and management reporting in a build-and-stabilise environment, working closely with the Revenue Controller who will own the revenue cycle.

The Reporting Manager (Interim) is the single accountable owner of the month-end close, the integrity of the balance sheet, and the numbers feeding monthly reporting and audit. With visible sponsorship from a newly appointed CFO, the role also plays a central part in selecting, designing and implementing a replacement practice management/finance system—supporting requirements, data migration, UAT and go-live.

Ideal for a confident, hands-on finance professional who enjoys detail, controls, and clear ownership, the Reporting Manager (Interim) will balance operational delivery with improved processes, ensuring reporting is accurate, timely and audit-ready.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the month-end closing cycle end to end: timetable, task ownership, and delivery against reliable, repeatable deadlines.
  • Perform full balance sheet substantiation and reconciliation for all balance sheet accounts with a clear, auditable trail.
  • Own accruals and prepayments, ensuring costs are recognised accurately and consistently period to period.
  • Manage accounts payable, including approval controls, supplier payments and ledger integrity.
  • Oversee payroll processes, ensuring accurate and timely processing and correct accounting treatment.
  • Own VAT and tax compliance, including timely and accurate returns and liaison with advisers as required.
  • Provide the single accountable point for monthly reporting numbers and audit accuracy and integrity.
  • Support monthly reporting packs, including KPIs and budget reporting suitable for a PE-backed business.
  • Lead audit preparation, prepare the audit file, act as primary auditor contact, and resolve queries.
  • Ensure controllership and reporting processes remain fully compliant with the SRA Accounts Rules and support the COFA.
  • Support system replacement activities: requirements, data migration, UAT and go-live alongside the Revenue Controller.
  • Embed improved controls, processes and documentation across the close and reporting cycle.

Required Skills and Experience

  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified.
  • Proven experience owning month-end close, balance sheet substantiation, and management reporting.
  • Strong working knowledge of the SRA Accounts Rules and operation of client accounts.
  • Hands-on exposure across AP, payroll, VAT/tax, accruals and prepayments.
  • Strong Excel and data skills; ability to build reporting from imperfect source data with confidence.
  • Immediately available and able to start at pace.
  • Desirable: legal or professional services experience, including familiarity with time-based billing and matter-level data.
  • Desirable: experience working within PE-backed reporting environments and delivering KPI/budget reporting.
  • Desirable: experience of finance system selection, implementation or migration.
  • Ownership mindset, pragmatic and hands-on approach, and confidence to provide clear, commercial updates to senior leadership.

The Reporting Manager (Interim) role is well-suited to individuals who want genuine impact: stabilising the close, strengthening controls and taking part in a rare system replacement at this level.

Revenue Controller

  • London, United Kingdom
  • 50000 - 55000
  • Permanent

Revenue Controller Revenue Controller roles are at the heart of a high-performing finance function—driving WIP, billing and credit control with pace, rigour and commercial judgement. This is a build-focused opportunity for a confident, hands-on professional to reshape revenue processes end-to-end and play a central role in system transformation in a fast-evolving legal environment. About the Company This company is a specialist law firm with a strong reputation, recognised for excellence in its field. Following recent private equity investment, the organisation is strengthening and scaling its finance capability with a clear mandate: deliver reporting to a PE standard while maintaining full compliance with the SRA Accounts Rules. With a newly appointed CFO reshaping the finance team around two senior hires—Revenue Controller and Reporting Manager—the business is creating a finance function designed for growth. The culture is built around accountability, practical process improvement, and close partnership with fee earners and stakeholders. About the Role The Revenue Controller owns the revenue cycle end to end—WIP management, the billing cycle and credit control—while also leading process redesign from first principles. The role is a genuine build position: processes are currently manual and fragmented, and the mandate is to redesign and embed new ways of working that match the organisation’s new reporting cadence. In addition, this Revenue Controller role sits at the centre of selecting, designing and implementing a replacement practice management / finance system, including requirements, vendor evaluation, data migration, UAT and go-live support. This is an opportunity to create controllership and management reporting foundations that will stand up to future scrutiny. Revenue Controller success will be measured through improved billing accuracy, reduced credit notes and rebilling, faster collections and stronger debtor management—supported by robust controls and SRA-compliant client account operations alongside the Legal Cashier and the wider finance team. Key Responsibilities Own WIP end to end, including ageing, provisioning and consistent application of write-off policy across practice groups. Run regular WIP review cadence with partners and fee earners; challenge aged and unbilled time constructively and maintain billing discipline. Drive down root causes of WIP build-up, including time recording behaviour, scope creep, unbilled disbursements and matter closure discipline. Take full ownership of the billing cycle—monthly bill run, interim and final billing—transitioning responsibility from the Finance Manager. Manage bill production lifecycle, including draft distribution, fee earner review, narrative quality, VAT treatment and disbursement handling. Build and enforce a billing calendar with clear deadlines, escalation routes and accountability. Improve billing accuracy and first-time-right rates to reduce credit notes and rebilling. Own collections and the debtor ledger, from reminders through to partner intervention and, where necessary, formal recovery. Set, monitor and report against collection targets by practice group and by partner. Manage client money interactions in partnership with the Legal Cashier to ensure receipts are correctly applied and compliant use of client account. Redesign revenue processes and embed controls, including documentation, training and adoption across finance and the fee earner population. Support compliance with the SRA Accounts Rules, maintaining robust controls over client account, disbursements, residual balances and billing practice. Partner with client take-on and COFA-related responsibilities to maintain strong data quality, engagement terms, fee arrangements and appropriate credit risk checks. Lead systems transformation as part of the Revenue Controller mandate: requirements, vendor evaluation, data migration, UAT and go-live readiness for the replacement system. Required Skills and Experience Demonstrable depth of professional services experience across revenue, WIP, billing and credit control. Strong legal sector exposure is strongly preferred, with familiarity of time-based billing and matter-level data. Working knowledge of the SRA Accounts Rules and the practical operation of client account. Credible and resilient stakeholder management, comfortable challenging partners and fee earners with clarity and professionalism. Strong Excel and data skills, including building reporting from imperfect source data and improving data quality over time. Ownership mindset: comfort acting as the single accountable person for the revenue cycle. Change-minded and pragmatic approach, able to lead process redesign and embed new practices during a build phase. Systems transformation experience (desirable), particularly involvement with e-billing platforms and complex client billing requirements. Desirable exposure to client take-on, matter opening and engagement/pricing processes. Comfort working close to the detail while also maintaining a strategic focus on controls, reporting cadence and performance outcomes. Revenue Controller candidates who enjoy process ownership, measurable impact and working at the intersection of finance controls and systems change are strongly encouraged to apply.
